South Africa: Eastern Cape receives economic boost

10 juillet 2012

The Eastern Cape in South Africa is set to be the main beneficiary of government plans to accelerate infrastructure development in the country, allafrica.com has reported.

In order to achieve this ambition, the provincial government of the Eastern Cape has announced that it is continually increasing capacity.

While all of South Africa is benefitting from the push to improve infrastructure, the Eastern Cape has seen the biggest investment.

It has been confirmed that the government expects to see the creation of more than 150,000 new jobs across the country by 2015.

As part of the upgrade work, the public transport links in the area are to benefit from heavy investment, meaning that the road network and airport will both see significant improvements.

A number of local ports, meanwhile, will also benefit from upgrades, which should help to ease the movement of people throughout the country.

Recently, South African president Jacob Zuma claimed that infrastructure improvements are key to long-term economic prosperity.
