HP expands presence in Ghana to enhance ICT infrastructure

Hewlett-Packard (HP) will help boost ICT infrastructure in Ghana after opening an office in the African country.

The IT company intends to expand its presence with the establishment and has signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of Ghana, which stipulates that it will help give students ICT training, the Ghana News Agency has reported.

As well as inject IT expertise into the nation, HP's presence will encourage commercial use of technology as Ghanaians will have greater access to equipment.

Dr George Antiohene, country director of HP-Ghana, said: "The deployment of HP's cloud-based and connectivity technologies by the Ghanaian government and local industries can help build a strong IT industry, which in turn generates economic growth."

This comes after Samsung revealed it will invest $140 million (£88 million) in African nations - including Ghana - over the next five years, according to the Daily Guide.

The electronics firm said this investment will help build factories and training centres to improve the continent's telecommunications infrastructure.
