Govt official reveals plans to finance infrastructure projects in Lagos

Government officials in the Nigerian capital city of Lagos have announced that they are to fund vital infrastructure projects through taxation of road users, This Day has reported.

Ayodele Adewale, the chair of the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government, pledged to spend an impressive N25 billion on improving infrastructure in the city, which should help the local economy in the long-term.

The money, Mr Adewale explained, would be generated through a road user charge scheme and would be spent on "maintain[ing] our roads; revamp the sewage system broken down over 25 years in Festac Town and create over 6,000 jobs for our youths".

He added: "Through public private partnership initiative, we intend to build a multi-purpose office complex, with ultra-modern shopping mall, four-star hotel and a spacious car park, among others."

Meanwhile, the news provider reported recently that the federal government has held talks with Chinese officials about investment in infrastructure projects in the west African state.
