Nigeria: Enugu state set for electricity upgrades

23 juillet 2012

The Enugu state government has reached a deal that will see as many as 26 communities in the state receive a reliable stream of electricity, Daily Trust reports.

Worth N850 million, the deal will change the lives of millions of people in 11 local government areas of the state.

It has been confirmed that the contract will be funded by the state government, which is determined to accelerate economic growth and sees such projects as key to achieving its lofty ambitions.

Chuks Ugwuoke, the commissioner for information, explained that the project is designed to ensure that all communities in the state have electricity before the end of tenure.

There are a number of similar projects going on elsewhere throughout the country and the government hopes that improvement to infrastructure will stimulate economic prosperity.

By improving electricity in the Enugu state, local businesses should see a significant upturn in their fortunes, for instance.
