Signature of audit contract to reform Congolese energy sector

12 May 2011

On Monday in Brazzaville, an audit contract was signed between the Fichtner Group and the Water, Electricity and Urban Development Project, as part of the reforms of the energy sector and of the Société Nationale de l'Electricité (SNE).

The main aim of this contract is to contribute to the installation of a better system to manage the energy sector and the SNE, which will ultimately lead to the privatization of the latter, reports the Xinhua press agency.

This announcement comes at a time when more than 841 km of very high voltage lines are under construction to supply the Congo with electricity.

They will increase the length of the national electricity grid to 1,588 km, reports the Xinhua agency.

In the past ten years, Congo has invested over 2 billion dollars in improving access to water and electricity, said the minister for Energy and Water, Bruno Itoua, who was quoted by the newspaper Les Echos.
