Regional integration to meet the challenges of Africa

3 December 2009

Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga called upon the African states to favour regional programmes during a United Nations conference on Tuesday 2 December 2009.

According to him, this is the best solution for meeting the many challenges facing Africa, such as climate change, the economic crisis, transmittable diseases, and poverty.

Co-operating with other African nations would also be the best way to promote economic and infrastructure development as well as commerce, he said.

According to a UNO press release, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Asha Rose Migiro, likewise emphasised the importance of integration in the infrastructure sector, citing the example of the cell phone, which has allowed for millions of jobs to be created.<br/>
