ODSR and FAD grant €1.4 million for Gouina dam in Mali

10 May 2011

A 1.4 million Euro agreement was signed last Friday between the French Development Agency (FAD) and the Organization for the Development of Senegal River (ODSR) to finance several feasibility studies concerning the hydroelectric dam project in Gouina, Mali.

"This aid, which will benefit from the resources of the European trust fund for infrastructure to the value of one million Euros, will finance the expert services and technical assistance to finalize the construction file for the hydroelectric dam", it was stated in a press release published by the Senegalese press agency.

With an output of 100 MW, the structure will complement the other dams on the River Senegal, at Manantali and Felou, currently under construction, reports the press release.

The cost of the dam at Gouina will be in the order of 140.2 million Euros, reports the newspaper Les Afriques. The principal financial backers are the EU, the World Bank, the BADEA and the FAD.

The World Bank and the European Investment Bank have contributed 125 million Euros to the financing of the Felou dam (Mali).
