13 February 2012 Times of Zambia |February 11, 2012 The African Development Bank (AfDB) has given Zambia US$80 million(about K408 billion) to construct the long-awaited Kazungula Bridge which has been on the drawing board for over 40 years. The project scope is to replace the Zambezi River Pontoon which often inconveniences the public due to regular breakdowns. The total cost for the construction of the bridge is estimated at $ 259.3 billion and is being co financed by AfDB, the Japanese International Corporation Agency (JICA), Government and other donors. 27 March 2012 US Government IIP Digital - March 26, 2012 Washington — The U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation’s (MCC) board of directors has voted to invest $350 million to help improve water infrastructure in Lusaka, Zambia. Describing water system challenges as “one of Zambia’s most binding constraints to economic growth,” the MCC reports that the agreement approved at a March 22 meeting aims to expand Lusaka’s water supply while also extending and improving water and sanitation networks. The Zambian Development Agency (ZDA) has announced that it will be focusing on the development of roads, railways and energies in order to stimulate economic development, reports the Zambia Daily Mail. 22 June 2011 By 2012, energy needs in Zambia may exceed supply, says Hanson Sindowe, chief executive of the mining company Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC). He says the government will have to invest in this sector as a matter of urgency. 8 September 2009 frican Energy Resources has announced its intention of taking its uranium mine at Chirundu in Zambia into operation as from 2010. Company CEO Frazer Tabeart told a press conference in Perth on Friday 4 September 2009 in Perth that an operating licence was pending. Engineers are currently carrying out a feasibility study.
