Zimbabwe is pushing forward with plans to move its information and communication technology (ICT) sector to “the next level” by 2015, said Zimbabwe ICT Minister Nelson Chamisa.

Chamisa, speaking at a trade and investment conference on Friday, encouraged private-public participation to further construct and upgrade telecommunications facilities in this relatively new sector in Zimabawe.

The country’s medium-term plan, released last year, highlighted the increasing need to develop Zimbabwe’s ICT sector, as it was a key infrastructural enabler for economic growth.

“ICT will act as a catalyst for national socioeconomic growth, propelling the country into an knowledge society with ubiquitous connectivity by 2015,” he said.
