Zimbabwe pushes ICT sector

Zimbabwe is pushing forward with plans to move its information and communication technology (ICT) sector to “the next level” by 2015, said Zimbabwe ICT Minister Nelson Chamisa.

Chamisa, speaking at a trade and investment conference on Friday, encouraged private-public participation to further construct and upgrade telecommunications facilities in this relatively new sector in Zimabawe.

The country’s medium-term plan, released last year, highlighted the increasing need to develop Zimbabwe’s ICT sector, as it was a key infrastructural enabler for economic growth.

“ICT will act as a catalyst for national socioeconomic growth, propelling the country into an knowledge society with ubiquitous connectivity by 2015,” he said.
