Waste management program: World Bank grants 100 million Euros to Morocco

28 February 2011

A development policy loan (DPL) relating to the household waste sector was signed Monday 28 February in Rabat.

This DPL will support the waste management program of the country, with the goal of improving and professionalizing the services of the management and treatment of household waste by 2021, it was reported by Maroc Journal.

This program also aims to improve the rate of recycling of the country's waste, with the objective of 20 percent recycling by 2015.

This loan agreement, which was signed by the Moroccan minister of Economy and Finance, Salaheddine Mezouar, and the director of the Maghreb department of the World Bank's regional office for the Middle East and North Africa, Simon Gray, is in line with the program of reforms being undertaken to improve the financial, environmental and social performances of the household waste sector in Morocco, reports this same source.
