Mali: 69 MW thermal power station to be built at Kayes

27 September 2010

The signature of a Concession Agreement for a construction project for a 69 megawatt thermal power station at Kayes, Mali, took place last week.

A ceremony was organised on this occasion, during which the Malian minister for energy, Mamadou Igor Diarra, declared that "the construction of this infrastructure will contribute to meeting the demand for electrical power" and "will encourage the promotion of the national economy through the development of the energy sector", reports the newspaper in Mali.

The total cost of the works, which will be spread over 16 months, is estimated at 72 million dollars.

This signature follows the announcement that  a vast regional integration project in the electrical infrastructures sector has received funding from the African Development Bank.

Kenya has in fact received a loan of 47.1 million dollars to participate in this project, which consists of integrating the networks of the DRC, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda and Kenya.
