Launch of wind power development project in Tunisia

28 April 2011

A project aimed at developing wind power in Tunisia has just been initiated by the Agence nationale pour la maîtrise de l'énergie (ANME) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP),

Headed "Private Sector-Led Development of On-grid Wind Power in Tunisia", it will extend over nine months, from April to December 2011, according to a press release from ANME.

The intention is to provide favorable conditions for investment by private operators in the renewable energies sector, in particular wind power, and to increase the technical and organisational capacities of the participants.

These are, notably, ANME, STEG, companies which are major consumers of electricity, planning departments, local industries, Tunisian and international commercial banks and higher education and research institutions.

The project also touches on all aspects linked to the development of wind power in Tunisia, such as the technical and regulatory framework, as well as the environmental, economic and financial aspects.
