Ethiopian company extends its Internet network to rural areas

19 April 2010

ETC, the Ethiopian national telephone operator, is going to extend its high-performance Internet network to the isolated regions of the country, in partnership with the company Giliat Satellite Networks, which is going to provide Internet communications by satellite.

The new network is going to cover 100 additional sites thanks to the work on the existing infrastructure.

“The golden age of Africa has dawned. Africa is currently undergoing a transformation in the way it grows, thanks to the development of IT”, declared Obiageli Ezekwesili, Vice-President of the World Bank for the African Region.

She made this declaration to an audience of investors during the 7th session of the African Economic Forum organized by Colombia University in New York last week.

She likewise emphasised the importance of investments in agriculture, energy, and infrastructures in order to guarantee sustained growth.
