ICA promotes trans-border water sector at World Water Week

3 September 2018

The ICA promoted the viability of Africa’s trans-border water sector during World Water Week (WWW) in Stockholm, Sweden from 26 to 31 August 2018.

Taking part at the invitation of the WWW’s organisers, the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), the ICA discussed the issue of trans-border water with key partners including SIWI, the Global Water Partnership (GWP) and the World Bank.

World Water Week is the annual focal point for the globe’s water issues and the theme of this year’s meeting was “Water, ecosystems and human development”. During the meeting the ICA also met with development partners including the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency and the Austrian Development Agency to discuss collaboration in the water and renewable energy sectors.

Another highlight of the ICA’s involvement was its participation at the high-level side event on “Accelerating Project Preparation and Financing of Transboundary Water and Hydropower Projects in Africa”, which was convened by the African Union (AU), African Water Facility (AWF), NEPAD Planning Agency, the African Ministers' Council on Water (AMCOW) and the Global Water Partnership (GWP).

This session was dedicated to enhancing partnerships between key stakeholders to support ‘PIDA Water’ as part of the second phase of the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA), from 2019 to 2024. The ICA was able to share its work and experiences in support of PIDA, and will consider organising a side event at the 2019 World Water Week in Stockholm.
