ICA discussions with Korea – Strengthening the ICT Platform

3 July 2013

In June of 2013, The ICA Secretariat sent a representative to Korea to meet with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to discuss the possibility of Korea joining ICA as a G20 member. ICA had also discussions with the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA), Samsung SDS and Ministry of Science, Science, ICT and Future Planning to discuss possible collaboration with those institutions on the to be established ICA ICT sector platform.

The Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed full support to strengthen the collaboration between ICA and Korean institutions. One of the follow-up activities discussed during the mission to Korea was possibly co-organizing an ICT event or conference early in 2014. This event would serve as a platform for different stakeholders, including Korean stakeholders and African stakeholders to discuss mutually interesting ICT projects and initiatives as well as key issues impeding the development of ICT infrastructure in Africa. It would also give Korea a good opportunity to showcase what it is already doing in Africa in the area of ICT.
