H.E. Mr. Nobutake ODANO, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary for the fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IV).
The meeting was attended by senior representatives of G8 ministries and bilateral development agencies in charge of infrastructure related programmes in Africa, multilateral agencies and key African regional institutions. China, Saudi funds and South Africa participated as observers.
The meeting heard that commitments to the infrastructure sector in Africa by ICA members in 2007 reached over $10bn (up from $7.7bn in 2006). Results from the Africa Infrastructure Country Diagnostic study showed that Africa’s infrastructure needs are close to $40bn per annum over 10 years, with nearly two-thirds of the investment needed in the energy sector.
