3 June 2011 Mauritius wants to set the standard in the domain of renewable energies in Africa. The Prime Minister, Navin Ramgoolam, made this declaration at the opening of the African Presidential Round Table 2011, last Wednesday in Port-Louis, reports the Xinhua press agency. He indicated that Mauritius was aiming to reach its goal of obtaining 35 percent of its energy production from renewable energies within nine years, through the MID Project (Projet Maurice Ile Durable). 14 October 2009 The Madagascar “Lion” submarine cable is operational, as Michel Barré, Director of the France Telecom Group for East Africa, recently announced. All that now remains is for the legislation to be passed, authorising the cable to be put into action so as to provide high-speed Internet services for its users.
