ICA supports IGAD Horn of Africa Conference 2012 on Infrastructure and Investment

7 March 2012

The Infrastructure Consortium for Africa is pleased to provide financial support and take part in IGAD’s first Horn of Africa Summit 2012 to be held 12-13 March 2012 in Nairobi, Kenya. This conference presents an invaluable opportunity to highlight the role that regional infrastructure can play to support resilience and economic growth in the Horn of Africa region. ICA and its members are committed to supporting IGAD’s efforts to scale up infrastructure investment in the region to benefit people of the Horn.

ICA Coordinator, Mohamed Hassan, and Peter Fernandes Cardy, head of ICA Regional Programmes and Project Preparation, will attend the conference to lend ICA’s full support:

"ICA is committed to the political partnership for peace, security and development in the Horn of Africa that underpins the Initiative. This is IGAD’s first infrastructure investment conference for the region, and we are pleased to help make it happen alongside our lead ICA member, the European Union. ICA would like to ensure that financiers are aware of the region’s infrastructure investment opportunities, and that all stakeholders – public, private and donors – have a shared understanding of the next steps required to deliver some large and exciting opportunities. If our funds can help accelerate and unlock investment for infrastructure projects that will benefit people of the region, then this is an excellent return on our time and investment."

ICA recognizes the critical need to make progress on delivery of transformative regional infrastructure programmes and projects if Africa is to meet its regional integration and trade objectives. To this end, ICA members champion four regional programmes: Horn of Africa Initiative, Eastern & Central Transport Corridors, North-South Corridor and West Africa Power Pool.
