ICA and ALSF conduct Power Purchase Agreement workshop

31 January 2017

The Infrastructure Consortium for Africa (ICA) is conducting a training workshop for the Southern African Power Pool, in collaboration with the African Legal Support Facility (ALSF).

The workshop, which is taking place from 30 January 2017 to 3 February 2017 in Johannesburg, South Africa, focusses on the legal and financial aspects of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). It follows the success of training workshops conducted in 2014 and 2015, respectively for 10 Anglophone countries and 11 Francophone countries.

Representatives from power utilities in Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe are participating in the workshop.

The ICA also organised a consultation meeting in Senegal in March 2016 to consider how best to engage the private sector in Africa’s power sector development and the role of Regional Power Pools; the provision of training workshops for the Power Pools and their respective members from power utilities was one of the key outcomes of the forum. This training workshop for the SAPP will be followed by three further workshops in 2017 and 2018, covering the Eastern, Western and Central Africa Power Pools.
