New website 'a hub for African finance'

20 April 2010

A new ICT tool in Africa could mean various financial institutions find it easier to coordinate their efforts.

The Making Finance Work for Africa (MFW4A) Partnership launched www.mfw4a.org yesterday (April 19th), which is hosted by the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Tunis.

Coordinator of the MFW4A Partnership Stefan Nalletamby said: "The website will serve as a knowledge hub for financial sector development practitioners, country authorities, academics and researchers alike."

He added it is a "major milestone" in Africa's financial sector, because the information held on the portal was previously decentralised.

As well as the data and documents, the site also features the Africa Finance Forum, which allows experts and users to discuss the continent's monetary matters.

The AfDB claimed this combination of attributes make the tool "an essential dimension for reducing poverty in Africa".

The MFW4A Partnership was established in October 2007 at the World Bank and International Monetary Fund annual meetings.
