ICA Secretariat and African Union Commission discuss next ICA Annual Meeting

17 May 2017

The Secretariat of the ICA and representatives from the African Union Commission (AUC) met in Addis Ababa last week to discuss preparations for the next ICA Annual Meeting.

The ICA Secretariat and representatives from the AUC’s Infrastructure and Energy Directorate met in the margins of the World Hydropower Congress, which took place in the Ethiopian capital from 9 to 11 May 2017. The ICA and African Union Commission were both organising partners of the Congress.

While discussions were primarily around preparations for the 2017 ICA Annual Meeting, which will take place in Rome, Italy, on 19 & 20 October 2017, the ICA and AUC also discussed the role of African stakeholders in the ICA.  The AUC’s representatives reiterated the Commission’s commitment to the ICA and promised its support for the 2017 ICA Annual Meeting.  The ICA and AUC also discussed strengthening collaboration between the two organisations and agreed to meet again soon to take this forward.

While ICA membership from the African side is led by the African Development Bank and the Development Bank of Southern Africa, other African stakeholders such as the African Union Commission, NEPAD Secretariat and the Regional Economic Communities participate as observers at ICA meetings.

The 2017 ICA Annual Meeting will be jointly organised by the ICA with the African Development Bank and the Government of Italy (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation).
