The pressing issues in the Senegal River Basin are to (i) optimize equitable uses of water during periods of water shortages and drought and provide improved access to safe water, (ii) restore favorable social and environmental conditions through improved land and water resource practices, (iii) increase incomes through increased agricultural productivity, and other related water resources-based activities, (iv) optimize benefits from existing infrastructure while developing appropriate new infrastructure, and (v) support cooperation and stakeholder participation to strengthen institutional capacities for sound decision-making and political and economic stability.
