Objectifs de développement durable

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by world leaders in September 2015 at an historic UN Summit, came into force on 1 January 2016. Over the next fifteen years countries will mobilise efforts to end all forms of poverty, fight inequalities and tackle climate change, while ensuring that no one is left behind.

The SDGs build on the success of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and aim to go further to end all forms of poverty. The new Goals call for action by all countries to promote prosperity while protecting the planet.

As infrastructure development is vital to the successful achievement of many of the SDGs – for example around Clean Water & Sanitation and Affordable & Clean Energy – the ICA will make an important contribution.

Just a few examples of how the ICA’s work is making a positive contribution towards supporting the SDGs include:

  • The ICA's Water Platform, which works to scale-up financing for sustainable water infrastructure in Africa from public, private and public-private sources;
  • The Project Preparation Facilities Network (PPFN), which advocates for greater financial resources for project preparation to be dedicated to planning for environmental and climate change challenges;
  • The provision of better information, such as the ICA’s flagship Annual Report on infrastructure financing trends and other publications, through which the ICA helps to improve understanding of Africa’s infrastructure development needs;
  • The commissioning and publication, in partnership with the AfDB, of the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) Financial Structuring Plan, which highlights the importance of regional infrastructure for Africa's growth, poverty reduction and sustainable development.
