Rwanda to see road expansion in rural areas

Rwanda will benefit from improved transport infrastructure after it was revealed that roads will be expanded in the African nation.

Engineering firm Parsons stated that it has given a contract to build new networks in the country's rural areas to give farmers better access to markets to sell their crops.

The group has been given the project by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), which intends for the road expansion to boost to Rwanda's economy.

Todd Wager, group president of Parsons, said: "[We are] pleased to support USAID's goal to 'feed the future' by developing sustainable road infrastructure in Africa."

Parsons will work on 1,000 km of roads by being in charge of planning, designing and supervising the construction of the transport networks.

Rwanda is also set to see a $24.2 million (£14.82 million) bridge being built to link it with Tanzania, according to Reuters.

The news source revealed Tanzania's finance minister Mustafa Mkulo saying the Rusumo bridge will "facilitate increased trade" between the two nations.
