Plans to integrate Kenya with Ethiopia and South Sudan 'nearing completion'

Antony Wamukota of the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Ltd has confirmed that an ambitious infrastructure project that is designed to integrate Lamu to other parts of the country is set for completion, the Nairobi Star has reported.

A statement from Mr Wamukota, the project co-ordinator, said that the work should be complete by October 2012, allowing Kenyan citizens to enjoy better connections with other parts of the country and neighbouring countries.

"The project is going on as planned since its commencement date in mid-2010, whereby excavation works for laying of structures has been done for both the Malindi substation and Garsen substation and will cover 328.5 kilometres from Rabai in Kaloleni, to Magogoni in Lamu," he explained in the statement.

Mr Wamukota added that the new power line will help to provide a consitent flow of electricity to the proposed new port, which is designed to link the east African country to Ethiopia and South Sudan.
