Nigerian power infrastructure set for boost

12 juin 2012

The Nigerian government's concerted efforts to boost power production in the west African state are starting to bear fruit.

That is according to James Abiodun Olotu, the managing director of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHCL), who explained that the National Integrated Power Project has increased the power generating capacity by around 1,025MW.

Mr Abiodun Olotu observed that this new-found power capacity, which could help to stimulate the economy, is waiting to be exported to the national grid.

"As we speak we have five units at our Olorunsogo Phase II Power station ready to deliver 650MW and in Sapele about 250MW while in Omotosho, we have 125MW of electricity ready for the national grid," he told This Day.

The National Integrated Power Project is the agency charged with the responsibility of improving power infrastructure in the country, which the Nigerian government has recognised is one of the keys to future economic growth.
