The Nigerian government has announced that it has secured the funding it needs to improve the country’s energy infrastructure and the use of solar technology in particular.
A new wave of funding has been provided by the Japanese government, Vanguard has reported.
Problems stemming from a lack of power and poor energy infrastructure are one of the key obstacles in regards to sustainable economic growth and the eradication of poverty in Nigeria.
"The people and the government of Japan hope that this project will enable an increase of the ratio of clean energy in the energy portfolio in order to reduce the use of fossil fuel which is considered as the main cause of today's global warning," explained a statement from the government.
It added that Japan is confident that this project "will be a good showcase of Japan- Nigeria co-operation in the field of clean energy".
