Kenyan govt announces infrastructure improvements

The Kenyan government has claimed that more than 1.5 million citizens in the country are set to benefit from a series of infrastructure improvements.

As much as $300 million has been set aside to improve services in a number of key areas, including: improvements to the drain system, improvements to urban roads and other infrastructure improvements.

"The greater Nairobi metropolitan region is already home to 17 per cent of the country's population and migration to the region is continuing at a rapid pace," Johannes Zutt, the Country Director for Kenya, told the World Bank website.

"But, the metropolitan region has large unmet needs for infrastructure and services, with demand for services growing far more rapidly than supply."

Nairobi is already recognised as the economic hub of east Africa and the government hopes that the proposed infrastructure improvement will help to boost the city's standing even further.

The World Bank is helping to support economic development in the country.
