African and Asian regulators successfully conclude consultations in Colombo

Colombo -- Following two days of intense deliberations, the Africa-Asia Regulatory Conference successfully ended today with regulators from Africa and Asia, representing 20 countries, agreeing to continue to consult with each other with a view to harmonise their responses to emerging regulatory challenges.
Organised jointly by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka and the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO), the conference aimed to promote consultations amongst regulators of Africa and Asia, under CTO’s umbrella, in order to learn from each other’s experiences. Taking a different path to usual conference format, the programme consisted of a limited number of presentations by selected experts on a range of key topics including Spectrum Management, Next Generation Networks (NGN), Mobile Broadband, Cyber Security and IPv6, followed by in-depth examinations of issues through discussions. Encouragingly, the delegates were able to identify numerous opportunities presented by the emerging trends that will help them manage the development of the ICT sectors of their respective countries.
