Renewable energy may be discussed at climate change debate

11 October 2010

Africa's renewable energy infrastructure could be one topic of conversation at a forum held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Wednesday (October 13th).

The African Development Bank (AfDB) explains its president Donald Kaberuka will address the first plenary session of the Seventh African Development Forum.

And the theme will be High Level Leadership Dialogue on Governance and Leadership Response to Climate Change, looking at the challenges this issue brings.

The AfDB states: "African governments are tasked with the responsibility of designing and implementing effective policies on mitigation and adaptation within an effective global climate governance framework."

It notes good governance will play a crucial role in the near future, particularly at a time when African nations are striving to meet the Millennium Development Goals.

The bank recently revealed it had approved a loan worth $50 million (£31.53 million) to boost the continent's ICT infrastructure, which may also assist with achieving the goals.
