Nigeria: Govt to Use Sure Funds to Complete Road Projects

The Federal Government will use funds from the Subsidy Re-investment and Empowerment (SURE) programme to complete ongoing road constructions and rehabilitation projects in the country.

The Minister of Works, Mr Mike Onolememen, said this on Tuesday in Abuja during the Ministerial Platform, a media briefing organised to commemorate Democracy Day and President Goodluck Jonathan's one year anniversary.

Onolememen promised that with the enhanced funding from the programme, the Federal Ministry of Works would complete such road projects by October 2014.

One of the projects to benefit from the SURE programme is the Apapa-Oshodi express way, he said, adding that the road has become an embarrassment and a source of agony to many Nigerians.

Others listed by the minister are the Benin-Ore-Shagamu highway and the Abuja-Abaji -Lokoja road.
