Launch of Terrestrial Digital Television in Gabon

13 October 2009

Communications Minister Laure Olga Gondjout has been celebrating the launch of Terrestrial Digital Television (TNT) in Gabon this week.

“The concerns which our country’s executive authorities have had ever since independence with regard to communications have been to provide Gabon with modern and good quality resources. The Government, motivated by a common desire, has now committed itself to digitalization”, she declared.

As is the case in Europe, digital television is going to be introduced progressively, with analog television being entirely replaced by 2020.

Ms. Gondjout made it known that not all the broadcast providers had yet been selected, and the list remains open for new proposals.

The Government is hoping that the digital television network will be made up of about forty public or private station chains, broadcasting in digital quality.<br/>
