China grants 248 million dollars for Berrechid-Beni Mellal highway in Morocco

16 February 2011

In Rabat last Monday, Morocco and China signed a memorandum of understanding on finance for the highway between Berrechid and Beni Mellal in the amount of 248 million dollars.

The signing took place in the presence of the Moroccan minister for the Economy and Finance, Salaheddine Mezouar, who received the Chinese minister of Commerce Chen Deming.

Two Chinese enterprises will be responsible for the highway works, which will go into service during 2013. It will run for a distance of 172 km.

Chen Deming said that he believes that Morocco has enormous economic potential and that the Chinese government supports the efforts of the Kingdom, especially in relation to the development of infrastructures, reports the newspaper Le Matin.

These 248 million dollars will be added to the other financing granted by the Arab Economic and Social Development Fund and the European Investment Bank (EIB).
