ADB invests over 90 million dollars in Blaise Diagne Airport

10 January 2011

The African Development Bank (ADB) Group has just approved a 90.7 million dollar loan for an airport construction project in Senegal.

At the same time, the ABD, with the Islamic Development Bank, is to mobilize more than 285 million dollars in additional loans.

The International Blaise Diagne airport, for which works will cost a total of 680 million dollars, will be situated 45 km to the east of Dakar.

The new airport will have an annual capacity of 3 million passengers and 80,000 aircraft movements, which will alleviate the air and road congestion at Dakar airport, reports a press release from the institution, published by the APS press agency.

This project will also stimulate the economic development of the whole of Senegal and its neighboring countries, and strengthen regional integration.

In addition to the airport infrastructures, the works will include the creation of a new industrial estate for airport-related activities, in particular aviation maintenance.
