ICA co-organizes a TICAD V Ministerial Level Meeting in Yaounde

On May 3rd in Yaounde, Cameroon, The Infrastructure Consortium for Africa (ICA), the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and NEPAD (New Partnership for Africa’s Development) co-organized a meeting under the theme “Innovative Approaches for Accelerating Connectivity in Africa – One Stop Border Post (OSBP) Development. This was the first TICAD V (Tokyo International Conference on African Development) Ministerial Level Meeting

Three hundred high level government officials; including 5 ministers from African countries attended the meeting.  The Vice-President of JICA, Mr. Hiroshi Kato summarized the main points of the high level panel discussion.  These include:

  1. The critical importance of political will and leadership to maintain the momentum for the initiatives.
  2. The importance of cooperation among the many border agencies and the private sector to ensure that results are achieved.
  3. New One-Stop-Border-Posts being developed now should take into account the lessons learned.
  4. Because OSBPs are nodes in regional transport corridors, it is important that they are developed as components of regional transit systems. 

He stated “…OSBPs help produce the understanding and cooperation that leads to effective regional integration…”
