Africa Partnerships Unit (APU)

Strategy

To pursue the foregoing, APU follows the following strategy:

  • Advocating the adoption of and alignment to the NEPAD Framework to various client categories in Africa South of the Sahara, especially, Regional Economic Communities, their Member States, Private Sector ad Non-Government Organizations. 
  • Providing capacity building support to the foregoing institutions to make the alignment to the NEPAD framework a reality and also to ensure the efficient management of NEPAD programmes and projects
  • Forming partnerships with continental and international finance institutions to harness resources to fund the foregoing and also to
  • Accelerate the implementation of NEPAD projects; moving them from identification, preparation and appraisal to actual implementation

Focus

Support to the adoption of the NEPAD Framework by key stakeholders, enhance capacities for its implementation and form partnerships that will resource and release technical resources in support of regional infrastructure development.

Major Achievements

  • Has jointly with AfD committed $3million to project preparation on 15 projects with a total investment value of approximately $1 billion
  • Supported the establishment of NEPAD contact points in 7 MSs and 4 RECs
  • Joint programmes of action with 12 international institutions and set up networks with some 18 institutions
  • Given capacity building support to 5 Utilities
  • Preparations on four regional projects have been completed and are currently being considered for investment.
